Who We Are
The Stop Home Depot Community Group (SHDCG) includes residents and stakeholders in North Hills/Granada Hills who are concerned with the proposed Home Depot construction project. This is an all-volunteer community group. Our neighborhood shopping center has multiple adjacent schools making it an unsafe choice for this type of development with a truck-centric, high-traffic, high exhaust and high noise light industrial complex. We want to ensure only neighborhood-appropriate development occurs at the NHSC. This website was created by SHDCG to express our concerns and is not directed against The Home Depot, Inc., as many of us are customers at the Van Nuys store, located only 2.9 miles south at Balboa and Roscoe Boulevards.

Introduction to the proposed HD project
Home Depot has announced plans to replace roughly 92,000 square feet of retail stores and the movie theater with a new 135,975 square foot store at the North Hills Shopping Center (NHSC).
HD Claims No Difference Between Old Shopping Center and New Larger Light Industrial Store
Currently, HD states they aren’t concerned about the impact of their light industrial facility on North Hills because:
-
Operating a 66% larger facility from 6 AM to 10 PM will not increase traffic,
-
Trucks that get 1/2 to 1/3 the gas mileage of autos will not produce more exhaust,
-
18-Wheel Big Rigs unloading from 6:00 AM until 10 PM will be just as quiet as a movie theater, and
-
The increased traffic and trucks will not increase pedestrian accident risk even though hundreds of K-12 children will cross in front of them each day on Balboa and Devonshire.
A Call To Action
We feel the proposed HD store will have significantly negative impacts on local businesses, the environment, the surrounding neighborhoods and public safety. Therefore, we feel the City of Los Angeles should require HD to conduct an in-depth Environmental Impact Report (EIR) in compliance with the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), under the assumption that the HD Van Nuys store will be closed.
